THIRTY-THREE SKATERS FROM ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST HIT THE BRICKS OF UNDERGROUND ATLANTA FOR RED BULL MANNY MANIA
ATLANTA- August 8, 2009- More than seven hundred spectators endured the Atlanta heat to check out thirty-three skateboarders from across the southeast compete in a two wheel battle at Red Bull Manny Mania. Underground Atlanta, which typically bans skateboarding, officially opened its streets to skaters and became the location for the eleventh stop of the amateur series that focuses on the “manual,” a skateboard trick that requires balance and technical skill in order to ride a board on only two of its’ four wheels. Keelan Dadd who’s in town filming for DGK, was able to keep his balance in check to take the top spot over Dan Plunket (2nd place) and Matt Fink (3rd place), who won Red Bull Manny Mania Jacksonville last year.
In all, six heats of skaters competed with the top ten advancing to the semifinal round and the top four scores moving onto the finals. In the end, the finalists battled the climate of “Hot”lanta and the brick terrain of Underground Atlanta and push the limits of skating in hopes of winning it all.
Dadd scored the highest totals in each round and ultimately claimed the top spot. “Makes sure you really have to think about what you have to try and sometimes you can just come up with some stuff you didn’t think you can do really,” said Dadd. His consistent runs beat out second place finisher Plunket, who also received Best Trick for landing a manual 360 flip out on the rainbow manny pad. “You definitely have to have a lot of balance and a lot of patience for sure because it takes a lot of tries to land your trick,” commented Plunket.
Footage of Keelan Dadd’s winning performance will be entered in the digital finals against the other 14 winners from across the U.S. at www. redbullmannymania.com. The skater with the most votes at the end of the summer will take home an HD video camera prize pack valued at over $7,000.
