FEELING HOT HOT HOT

Red Bull Manny Mania Scorches Downtown Houston Houston, TX—August 9, 2009—Tempertures weren’t the only thing soaring yesterday in Houston. Forty local skateboarders and more than 600 fanatics hit the Houston Public Library Plaza yesterday for Red Bull Manny Mania AM series.

On any other day at the Houston Public Library Plaza it is illegal to skate, but yesterday Houston’s best amateur skaters were welcomed. The day may have begun with 40 skaters--each vying for a shot at $7,000 in prizes and a chance for national recognition in the skateboard community--but in the end, only one remained. That one was Houston native, Trace Saylor.

Saylor wowed the other competitors, curious downtown hoppers, and wide-eyed children with a Nose Manny to Fakie, Manny Fakie Flip Out. This stunt not only won him “Best Trick” but also, the top spot on the podium.

After hearing his efforts paid off, Saylor exclaimed, “I don’t know what’s more sick, this medal or the competition. I’m not sure how Red Bull threw this down on the one place in town where everyone knows it’s illegal to skate, but they did.”

By winning the competition, Saylor will have his performance posted on the Red Bull Manny Mania website alongside the winners from the other 14 stops across the U.S. The skater with the most votes on the site at the end of the summer wins a digital video camera prize pack, valued at more than $7,000.

Rounding out the podium were Grant Jensen winning second, and Dominique Goings winning third. “When I signed on to score Manny Mania, I knew an event of this caliber would bring out the best in Houston,” commented Manny Mania judge Eric Visentin. “Trace, Grant and Dominique blew me away in the final, and I’ve been involved in skateboarding for over 20 years.”

While Red Bull Manny Mania is in its third year, the Houston competition broke ground as the first to be broadcast live on-site during the competition. Core Action set up a revolutionary filming system that allowed cameras, mounted on the competitors decks, to shoot video of each skater, that was then fed to numerous plasma TVs on-site.
