SKATERS FROM ACROSS THE STATE TURNED UP THE HEAT AT THE ICE PALACE FOR RED BULL MANNY MANIA MIAMI
Over six hundred spectators escaped the Miami heat to check out forty-three skateboarders from across the state compete in a two wheel battle at Red Bull Manny Mania. The Ice Palace, which is typically a set for blockbuster films, became the location for the tenth stop of the amateur series that focuses on the “manual,” a skateboard trick that requires balance and technical skill in order to ride a board on only two of its’ four wheels. Aaron Collier from MESH Skatepark in Orlando was able to keep his balance in check to take the top spot over Bert Wooten (2nd place) and Cody Lucas (3rd place).
In all, eight heats of skaters competed with the top ten advancing to the semifinal round and the top four scores moving on to the finals. In the end it can down to an Orlando versus Miami battle for the top spot.
Collier said he was surprised to even make it to the finals, “It feels great. I did not expect to win.” His run narrowly edged out second place finisher Wooten who also received Best Trick for landing a backside feeble grind transfer to nose manual shove out. “The tricks are kind of simple, it’s just that we’re doing them on harder objects,” commented Wooten.
Footage of Aaron Collier’s winning performance will be entered in the digital finals against the other 14 winners from across the U.S. at www. redbullmannymania.com. The skater with the most votes at the end of the summer will take home an HD video camera prize pack valued at over $7,000.
