The Phoenix Am contest is one of the best amateur contests of theyear. The event is held in Peoria, and the skatepark there is so fun. One of the best things about Arizona is that all the parks are free, and they have lights and no helmet laws to boot.

Once we really started to think about it the decision was made to skip the contest altogether and just skate. The crew was Scott Kane, Jacob Walder, Kevin Romar, Saul Quintero and Abner. Our tour guides were Robert Brune and Aaron Bonds. They were homies and hooked it up, thanks guys.

We stayed in Tempe on the other side of town from the contest to avoid the crowds. Each day would start out warming up at the Tempe park. Tempe, like all the other parks is so good and sometimes it was hard to get out there. We did manage to get over to a pretty popular big three one day.

Pulling into the parking lot we drove right by the security guard. The parking lot is huge and the stairs are on the far side. I told the boys we should try to get a couple tries before he walks all the way over here. When he finally showed up he said it's cool, we can skate. He walked across the whole lot to tell us that.

Tempe is also where the college is so there are all kinds of places to eat with cute college waitresses. Most of the boys are under age, but they still tried to spit game. The girls just think they’re so cute. The Phoenix area has so much to skate I can't talk about it all. I say just go there and have a good time. And if for some reason you don't like Phoenix, try Flagstaff or Tucson. They’re all good. Maybe during next year’s contest we will check them out, too. Actually, we’ll be back much sooner than that.
