Pac Sun’s “Clash At Clairmont” was a day of demos, giveaways and music that marked the grand opening of the PSX Vert Ramp at the Clairmont YMCA in Southern California. The PSX Ramp was the ramp used in the 06’ Xgames. After being left to unused, the ramp was refurbished and donated to the YMCA by the generous folks at Pac Sun. Now between the new 80 foot vert ramp, the 11 foot combi-bowl, and the sprawling street course, the Clairmont Y is in league with the best parks in the world.
`
The day started out with a completely stacked vert demo. Pro’s like Tony Hawk, Andy Mac. PLG, Bucky Lasek, Bob Burnquist, Mike Crum, Max Doufour, Lincoln Ueda, Mathias Ringstrom, Buster Halterman, Neal Hendrix and a crew of up and coming am’s were joined by a group of BMXers to help throw the mother of all vert demos. The crowd was huge, and judging by the line for autographs after the demo, they were obviously stoked on all the skaters. The demo lasted a few hours, and then it was time for the giveaways, auction and autographs.
After a short break in the action, it was time to kick it back up with the bowl jam. Agent Orange came out to play during the session. For anyone old enough to remember the old NSA videos from the 80’s this session was like a time warp back to the old days.
And for the kids, this was a chance to see legends like Chris Miller, Lester Kasai, Adrian Demain, skate the bowl with the top pro’s of today like Bob Burquist and Andy Mac. The session went off for a few hours as Agent Orange kicked out the classic Skate Rock. At the end of the day it was clear that top pro’s, timeless music and a world class vert ramp is a perfect recipe for a good time.
