Video Review "Ride The Sky"
Well chalk another one up for the Chief. He’s done it again. Though this time he had some strong help courtesy of Mike Gilbert, not to mention the entire Fallen team. Together they’ve made quite a video. On top of everything you’d expect from a Black Box video - the mandatory slaughter of huge gaps and rails, a soundtrack geared towards the rock and roll crowd and the staple editing style of Jamie Thomas - there's a softer touch to this video. Maybe it’s just the improved quality of the actual footage since a lot of it is HD, or maybe it’s the lengthened roll away time on a lot of the clips, but Ride the Sky seems a bit more refined than past videos Chief has done. It’s got a more polished feel without losing its edge. There’s also a lot more crazy-ass technical skating courtesy of Gilbert Crockett and Chris Cole amongst others.
Overall, this is a really solid video. Ride the Sky has enough big gaps and rails to drop some jaws without making it tiresome to watch. Every part has enough variety of spots and tricks peppered in to keep things interesting and to keep you waiting for the next clip. The video itself is long enough to satisfy and short enough to throw in before you go skate and you'll probably find yourself humming a song from the soundtrack after you do. Bottom line, Ride the Sky is a skate video that will make you want to skate, and that's probably the best feat you can accomplish with a video.
