Get Familiar Premier
Saturday, November 18th 2006, Washington D.C.
Chris Hall's 'Get Familiar' video premiere went off
with a bang in Washington D.C. “Get Familiar” is the first major
skateboarding video ever to be produced and premiered
in the nations capital. The premier drew the entire
D.C. skate scene and then some to a new theater
located within the George Washington University Campus
and just a few blocks from the White House.
The event brought out skaters from all era's of skateboarding in
D.C. I saw people who hadn't been around since the
1980's as well as many younger skaters with their
parents. Chris had 2 showings of the video and both
were packed with people highly anticipating the video.
Darren Harper had a huge posse of friends including
Felix Arguelles, who was there with a videographer to
help film for a Famous Stars & Straps documentary.
Bobby Worrest barely made it back in time for the
video and The Gonz was seen dropping in on a giant 10
foot tall skateboard right outside the theater. Two
of D.C.'s most coveted skaters, John Igei and Ali
Mills, were there as well. Chris was seen all over the place at the video and handed out
tons of giftbags to younger skaters.
As the lights
dimmed and voices were hushed, the video started and
people got to see what Chris's 2+ years of work
amounted to. Mark Gonzales, Donny Barley, Daewon
Song, Bobby Worrest, Casey Rigney, Zach Lyons and
Darren Harper all had full parts. Also Joey Pepper,
James Craig, Fabio Cristiano and Reese Forbes had
shorter guest parts. Many folks were impressed that
an independent film maker was able to put together a
video with such a high profile line up. I won't ruin
any of the tricks for you, but some of the best
skating I've seen recently goes down in this video
wether it be style wise or banger wise, its there.
Directly after the premiere everybody (over 21 that
is) headed down to Topaz Lounge for the after party,
thanks to Chris Silva for hooking that up. Peace to
all the skaters who came out and get a copy for
yourself just in time for the holidays! Check out Getfam.com for more info.
