VINCENT ALVAREZ IS CROWNED DC’S KING OF LOS ANGELES

Vista, CA…DC’s King of Los Angeles amateur skateboarding series concluded July 7th at Los Angeles City College with Vincent Alvarez claiming the DC King of Los Angeles title. After almost a month of contests held at four notable Los Angeles skate spots, Alvarez of West Covina took the title along with a grand prize of $5000, a custom DC King of Los Angeles video Ipod, and a G’zOne Type-V phone.

The fourth contest at Los Angeles City College saw a heated final session on a Wilshire 10 stair replica. Coming into the finals, Alvarez trailed Josh Grossguth by 3 points, so the last stop was crucial to determine the series winner. The Wilshire 10 proved to be the perfect spot to settle the score as the finalists brought out their best for the crowd of over 300 people. In the extended final session, Alvarez put down solid tricks throughout – a switch 180 5-0, switch big spin board slide and secured the win with a banger: a switch 180 frontside nose grind. Alvarez’s first place finish at LACC gave him an additional 10 points and a tie at 29 points with Josh Grossguth for the series title. Based on Alvarez’s placing overall for the series, which included two first place finishes and one second place finish, Alvarez took home the KOLA crown. The DC King of… Series is a unique format skateboarding contest that gives amateur skateboarders a chance to showcase their skills on their home turf. The Los Angeles series combined four amateur skateboarding contests with a team trip that includes DC team members from the U.S., Europe, Canada and Australia to create one of the largest events for DC Skateboarding since The DC Video World Tour in 2003.

DC’s inaugural King of… Series began in New York in 2006. The contest launched successfully across New York’s five boroughs. Culminating at Manhattan’s legendary Brooklyn Banks, The King of New York contest called on amateur skateboarders from all over the city to do battle for the coveted DC King of… title. The DC King of… Series will now travel to Barcelona in September and Sydney in late 2007.
