Story by: Jake Phocolate The 2007 Soul Bowl event in Huntington Beach went off the charts this year with all the divisions battling it out for top honors in the SoCal sun. Friday started off the event with the ladies showing and proving they are no strangers to a good bowl jam. Mimi Knoop blazed by Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins and Julie Kinstrand with solid runs and a new bag of tricks to take the top spot. Saturday came around and it was time for the living legends to get in there and show everybody how they have been doing it for years, with style and power. Longtime vert ripper Tony Mag man-handled the bowl with big airs and put together lines that utilized every corner of the bowl. Sunday once again proved to be the hottest most competitive part of the whole weekend, with the pro division going mental in a jam format, sometimes with three or four riders dropping in at the same time. This by far was the tightest finish all weekend. Local charger Omar Hassan was solid and showed full command of the bowl with speed lines mixed with big airs and tech tricks that had the local crowd pumped for sure. Benji Galloway and Bruno Passos battled hard for second place with Benji just nosing out Brunno by a fraction of a point Wrapping up a great weekend of skating was Victor Simao’s backside tailslide to shuvit out at mach speed to win best trick. Big shout out to World Cup Skateboarding for putting together an epic event on the sand in Huntington Beach…see ya there next year!
